Living with Intention

I am a huge fan of Super Soul Sunday on the OWN channel.

For me, it has been an enlightening reminder of what is important in life and a valuable tool for strengthening my spiritual being.

Last week, Oprah finished her interview with India Arie. I had never heard of her until then. She is a multi-platinum singer and song writer. After listening to her perform her song Break The Shell, I was so moved I had to get her CD. India shared her story about not being true to herself in the earlier years of her career. And as a result, she hit rock bottom. But now, she is living life on purpose and on her terms.

Are you living your life on purpose? Do you know who you are and what your soul is meant to do?

Here are two of my favorite quotes that inspire me and relate to the questions above:

“Follow your bliss.” – Joseph Campbell

“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” – Joseph Campbell

Living with intention

What I’ve learned for myself is that life is too precious for me not to be living it as I desire. The greatest gift we can give God is to be all that we are meant to be during the precious time he has blessed us with.

When Oprah and India talked about the soul coming back to finish what wasn’t done while the physical body is here, I realized that I have to finish what my soul’s purpose is. I don’t want it to come back and finish what I was meant to, but rather magnify what I left behind.

During the interview, they talked about how India restored her spiritual, emotional and mental being from hitting rock bottom. India used prayer and meditation. I thought this was one of the most profound moments during the interview as India shared how she prays to be 100% guided by her soul. Then came Oprah’s question that we can all ask ourselves…

“How do you discern the voice of God vs. the chitter chatter…?”

I’ve talked about the inner voice (the chitter chatter Oprah is referring to) in a previous blog. Discernment is a spiritual muscle you develop just like you do with physical exercise for the body. And when our inner voice becomes that empowering friend we need, then discernment will come as the beautiful gift that it is.

I leave you with India Arie’s definition of success and hope it inspires you to create, be reminded of or redefine yours…

“Success is clarity of my intention… and reaching that intention while being true to myself and with joy.” – India Arie
